Happy Birthday Suzanne Aubert

In room 6 we have been celebrating Suzanne Aulbert's birthday by making flowers for the theme, “Always choose the little flower of hope.”

Suzanne looked after sick people, people with disabilities, children whose families couldn’t care for them, and the elderly. The work she started continues to this day in places like Wellington’s Compassion Soup Kitchen.

Suzanne left her home in France and came to Aotearoa to support the Maori people. She honoured the Maori people, their tikanga, reo and rongoa. Suzanne loved God and always thought about what he wanted her to do, not what she wanted, even when that wasn’t easy.

Sea Turtles

Do you know which animal is a reptile and has a shell on it’s back? If you answered sea turtle then your right! Did you know that sea turtles can live for a century There are seven known sea turtle species from around the world, and the biggest specie is the Leather-back. The life cycle of a sea turtle has three main parts, eggs, babies and adulthood. First is the egg stage.

The female sea turtle digs a hole at a beach or in lower dunes. Then it lays about 110 eggs and covers then with left over sands. It may take 6 weeks for the baby turtles to hatch. After 6 weeks not all sea turtles hatch but 90 of them may survive. They squirm out of the sand and race to the waters.

While they are trying to race to the waters they can be stopped by many predators like seagulls, crabs and raccoons. 50% might make it to the waters but then they find a new group of predators in the sea like fish and sharks. Usually they would swim under a bunch of seaweed then they grow and grow until they’re adults.

Now that they are adults they have new predators like big sharks and big whales. After a few years the sea turtles will be able to mate and start the whole cycle again.

Mother's Day Poem.

A mother like you,
I just want you to know that you mean the world to me,
only a heart as dear as yours would give so unselfishly.
The many things you've done all the times that you've been there,
helps me know deep down inside how much you really care.
Even though I might not say I appreciate all you do,
Richly blessed is how I feel
Having a mother just like you.

The Ascension of the Lord

In RE we learnt about the Ascension of Jesus. At Galilee Jesus told his disciples to take his Gospel to the whole world. He promised to send the Holy Spirit to be with us always and then he returned, in glory to his Farther in Heaven. We used crafts to show how Jesus went body and soul to Heaven.
